The Pistol Annies are officially back in the studio.
The country supergroup featuring Ashley Monroe, Angaleena Presley and Miranda Lambert is working on new music, marking their first studio album since 2021’s Christmas release Hell of a Holiday.
In a interview with Rolling Stone‘s “Nashville Now” podcast, Monroe confirmed that the trio is actively writing and recording together, with “a lot of songs that nobody’s heard yet.”
“We’re texting all the time. We have a lot of songs that nobody’s heard yet that we’d love for them to one day,” Monroe revealed.
The band is determined to follow up their holiday album with a proper studio release. “We can’t have our last record we make be a Christmas record. Even though I love that record, we have to do one main record,” the country star explained.
While fans eagerly await new material, the timing remains uncertain. Monroe did describe their approach to release dates, saying, “We say, ‘Jesus is our A&R guy.’ We’ll know when.”
Each member of the trio continues to thrive in their individual careers while contributing to the group project.
Lambert continues to dominate the country music scene with extensive touring and is currently organizing “Band Together,” a benefit concert to help Texas flood victims. The show takes place at Austin’s Moody Center on Sunday, August 17 and will be livestreamed for fans unable to attend.
“Texans helping Texas. My buddy Parker McCollum and I have called up some good friends to help our home state rebuild. Let’s band together y’all,” Lambert posted on social media.
“Angaleena is thriving… working on her own music. Her and I have been writing a ton,” Monroe shared. “Miranda’s been touring her butt off and is thriving in her world and her realm. I’ve written with her recently.”
Monroe, known as “Hippie Annie” within the group, recently released her solo album Tennessee Lightning. The Tennessee native earned the title from songwriter Shelby Lynne, who gave her the nickname during a writing session.
“I went over to her house, a year or two ago, and she always opens her notebook and has a pencil, and she hit it and she said, ‘I wrote down Tennessee Lightning,'” Monroe recalls.
“I loved it, so we wrote it…. Then she started calling me ‘Tennessee.’… I like that as my little superhero name.”
The Pistol Annies formed in 2011 and have released multiple albums, with their last non-holiday studio album being 2018’s Interstate Gospel.
