Want to buy an artificial Christmas tree this year? You’ve got two options if you want to save money: buy one now or push your purchase back to 2026.
High tariffs on Chinese products are causing artificial Christmas tree companies to scale back on their orders as they try to figure out how much customers are willing to spend on these holiday products, according to Reuters.
Fake Christmas tree supply will be lower than usual
While the U.S. and China just agreed to a 90-day tariff extension, many companies have already purchased what they plan to sell for the season.
“We’re going to have a lower supply year,” Chris Butler, CEO of National Tree Company, which supplies trees to Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Amazon, told Reuters.
Mac Harman, CEO of Balsam Hill, said he expects about 15% fewer trees in the market this holiday season.
Prices will go up to compensate
Butler said the National Tree Company plans to hike its prices by 10% to 20% on certain fake trees. Reuters noted they source their trees from China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.
“We’re not overbuying (from our suppliers) because we’re not sure about consumer demand and don’t want expensive inventory on our books,” Butler told Reuters.
The verdict? Buy now or wait until next year
If you know you’re planning to get an artificial tree this year, it makes sense to invest in one now — especially while fake trees are still in stock.
We tested artificial Christmas trees to help determine which are the best out there. These are worth your time and money, according to our results.

King of Christmas
King of Christmas Royal Fir
The King of Christmas Royal Fir is far from a budget pick, but it’s packed with features that make it worth considering. It has the most PE needles of all of the trees we tested, creating a lush, realistic look. It’s also mostly ready to go out of the box. The tree comes in several sizes, ranging from 6.5 to 12 feet, and you can pick from unlit or pre-lit models. It also offers dual white and colored LED lights, which you can switch between with the tree’s foot pedal or the included remote control.

Balsam Hill
Balsam Hill Bellevue Spruce Tree
Artificial Christmas trees don’t have to look real—in fact, sometimes a slightly fake look is part of their charm. But if realism is important to you, the Balsam Hill Bellevue Spruce Tree was the most realistic option we tested. The tree uses a mix of PVC and polyethylene (PE) needles to create a look of real spruce branches. It comes in your choice of three heights — 6.5, 7.5, and 9 feet—along with the option to do clear or multi-colored lights.

The tree comes in five sizes, ranging from 4.5 to 10 feet, and it’s pre-strung with white lights. At just over $100, this tree is a steal. It also has soft PVC needles and enough branches to create a full look.

Best Choice Products
Best Choice Products 6ft Pre-Lit Spruce
During testing, we found this budget-friendly tree to be lightweight enough to set up with ease but still surprisingly sturdy. It’s available in five sizes, ranging from 4.5 to 12 feet. You also have the option of white or multicolored bulbs. The top two sections of the tree give a full appearance, although the bottom is a little more sparse. But if you like to put on plenty of ornaments, this won’t be as noticeable.

King of Christmas
King of Christmas Queen Flock
If you’re looking for a flocked tree (i.e. one covered in fake snow), this King of Christmas option is a solid bet. It features a blend of PE needles, more than 2,000 branches and fluffy snow for a winter wonderland vibe. You can select this tree in six sizes, from 6.5 to 12 feet tall. Each is covered in warm white LED lights. Just a heads up: Like most flocked trees, this will shed during set-up. But we found during testing that was the extent of it.
