CNN’s Harry Enten Says Americans ‘Vastly Prefer’ Trump’s Handling Of Crime Over Biden

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten on Thursday said that Americans overwhelmingly prefer President Donald Trump’s handling of crime over former President Joe Biden.

Trump is above water on crime with a +1 point net approval rating as of August, which stands a full twenty-seven points above Biden’s -26 point approval rating in 2024, Enten said, citing his aggregate data. Polling data has indicated that Americans are more hawkish on the issue of crime than Democrats in Congress may want to believe.

“Look in 2024, look at where Biden’s net approval was on crime. Way underwater there at -26 points. It was one of Biden’s worst issues, granted, pretty much every issue was one of Biden’s worst issues,” Enten said. “And again, look at where Donald Trump is. Way, way, way above Joe Biden. That’s 27 points. So Americans vastly prefer Donald Trump’s approach to crime than they did to Joe Biden’s and again, I think it gets back to the point that Americans are far more hawkish on crime than Democrats want to admit.”(RELATED: CNN’s Harry Enten Says Americans Think Trump Handling Crime ‘Far Better Than Joe Biden’)

In March 2024, Trump’s net approval rating on crime during his first term stood at -13 points, Enten said. Americans have grown to favor Trump’s handling of crime during his second term, which includes deploying the National Guard to tackle crime and rioting in major cities across the U.S.

“Americans view Trump far more favorably now on crime than they did a year ago, and while this polling doesn’t exactly take into account what exactly is happening in D.C. right now, it does take into account what happened in Los Angeles, what’s happened earlier this year. And Americans, for the most part, actually view Trump favorably. Crime is one of Trump’s best issues, it’s one of the reasons why he wants to talk about crime, because it favors him,” Enten said.

Trump deployed the National Guard and federally took over Washington, D.C. on Monday to “reestablish law, order and public safety” in the nation’s capital. In June, the president deployed the National Guard to disperse chaotic riots that broke out in Los Angeles, California, over the raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the area.

Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, ICE has arrested over 300,000 illegal immigrants who have committed heinous criminal acts, including homicide and the sexual assault of minors. Illegal border crossings have reached its lowest levels in history as a result of Trump’s hawkish border policies.

The Biden administration oversaw record-high surges of illegal border crossings, allowing for the high-profile murders of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray and Rachel Morin at the hands of illegal immigrants.
