Christopher Meloni didn’t mince words when he replied to a Law & Order: SVU fan’s request.
One fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to make it abundantly clear that the fandom wants to see Meloni’s Elliot Stabler and Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson finally get together.
“for f— sake, kiss her already,” the post read, as Meloni savagely responded, indicating that no one wants to make it happen more than he does.
“I’m f—ing trying,” he hilariously quipped back.
Fans were glued to the comment section, with one fan responding, “We have faith, you can do it! It’s only been almost 30 years.”
“You put your game face back on and get back in there!! There’s no trying! Just do!” another fan advised, as another demanded, “Well TRY HARDER.”
One fan knew exactly who to blame for the lack of momentum when it comes to the Stabler and Benson ship—”Sadly, Dick Wolf will cut that scene..if he hasn’t already,” referencing the franchise’s creator and executive producer.
Longtime fans of the crime procedural are used to the will-they-won’t-they game between the characters, though it doesn’t mean they’re not fed up with it, having spent decades wanting to see the romance come to fruition.

Hargitay remains on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which will return for Season 27 on Thursday, Sept. 25, while Meloni has moved to Law & Order: Organized Crime, returning to broadcast with Season 5 on the same night. According to Deadline, re-airing the season that was exclusively on Peacock last year will help NBC decide if the spinoff is worth renewing.
Law & Order will also air Season 25 as part of the Thursday night block.
Fingers crossed that Meloni—and fans—finally get what they’re wishing for this season.
