Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adhichie wore Prabal Gurang to the Met Gala this evening, walking the blue carpet for the event celebrating the museum’s Costume Institute exhibit, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which was inspired by curator Monica Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
Her bright red gown featured feathers and a sizable train, and, in a nod to the menswear-inspired theme of the evening, was covered in bows and bow-ties. In addition to being a guest at tonight’s charity ball, Adichie is also a member of this year’s host committee, a group that is being brought back for the first time since 2019. Other members of the host committee include André 3000, Doechii, Dapper Dan, and Ayo Edebiri.
In line with the evening’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” her gown featured a cinched bodice. She complemented the bold look with diamonds. Designer Prabal Gurung accompanied her up the Met steps.
Though it is her first time attending the gala, Adichie has been popular in fashion circles for years. Most notably, in 2017 the author worked with Dior and its creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri as the label made t-shirts with the slogan “We Should All Be Feminists,” a phrase which comes from the title of Adichie’s novella-length essay. She frequently attends the brand’s fashion shows.
In addition to attending tonight’s party and serving on the host committee, Adichie has had a busy spring. Dream Count, her first novel in more than a decade, was released in March 2025.
