Cher Blamed for Son’s Divorce Amid Explosive Family Rift

Cher‘s son, Elijah Blue Allman, and his wife, Marieangela King, are reportedly heading for divorce, and the latter blames the “Believe” songstress for much of their marital troubles.

According to reports, King filed for divorce from Elijah on April 7, citing irreconcilable differences.

Sources also said King believes Cher is “a large part” of her and Elijah’s problems, adding to the feud between her and the singer.

King and Elijah’s marriage has had its fair share of trouble, and it looks as though their marriage is ending for good if reports are anything to go by.

According to court documents The Daily Mail obtained, King demanded $6,000 monthly in spousal support and “exclusive use of [their] 2017 Toyota Prius.”

This is not the first time King has filed for divorce from Elijah, as she initially sought to end their marriage in 2021.

However, the couple worked out their differences, and she called off the divorce last year.

Still, insiders believe there are no chances of King and Elijah working things out this time, as she is “done” for good and blaming one person in particular for the troubles in their union.

Sources told the Daily Mail that King believes Elijah, whose struggles with drug addiction are well-documented, has relapsed and is no longer sober.

They said, “Angela has given Elijah so many chances, but she is not going to be taken for granted ever again.”

The insiders added, “She trusted him that he was going to stay sober and has reason to believe that he is not.”

However, King reportedly blames Cher for most of Elijah’s issues. The source revealed, “Frankly, Cher is a large part of [King’s] decision to walk away from this toxicity. She blames Cher for all of his issues.”

They added, “While she is alive her mother-in-law will continue to cause nothing but problems and Marieangela is sick of her, sick of him and sick of all of it.”

The insider’s claims are the latest in the ongoing feud between Cher and her daughter-in-law.

The women’s issues began soon after Elijah and King’s engagement in December 2013, with Cher allegedly refusing to congratulate the couple.

Elijah, Cher’s son with the late musician Gregg Allman, spoke to the Daily Mail about tensions between his mom and King. He said, “You’ve got two strong women, two big bulls in the pen. I think there’s a respect and I think they butt heads a little.”

However, Cher and King’s feud seemingly worsened afterward, as the latter claimed in November 2022, via court documents related to her initial divorce filing, that Cher hired four men to “remove” Elijah from a New York City hotel room they were staying in while trying to resolve issues in their marriage.

King alleged that the men took Elijah to an unknown treatment center for his addiction issues, adding that one of them told her he was working for Cher. However, Cher denied the allegations, and no criminal charges were filed against her.

King and Cher’s issues came to the fore after the singer filed to become her son’s sole conservator.

The music icon initially filed the request in December 2023, citing concerns over Elijah’s alleged substance abuse and claims that he was unable to manage his finances.

In court filings, Cher said a conservator was urgently needed to protect her son’s estate, stating that Elijah’s addiction and mental health struggles made him vulnerable. She also argued that King was not a suitable conservator due to the instability in their relationship.

However, Elijah pushed back, acknowledging past addiction issues but insisting he was now clean and financially responsible. Elijah also questioned Cher’s fitness as a conservator, with King stating in court that Cher is “manic depressive” and unable to handle her own affairs, let alone someone else’s.

In September 2024, The Blast reported that Cher dropped her bid for the conservatorship of Elijah.

Her decision ended their tense legal battle, which lasted for nine months. According to Cher’s lawyer, the matter was “privately resolved” through mediation.

Her decision to withdraw the petition without prejudice allowed for a possible future revisit, though the current focus was on mending their fractured relationship.

Elijah’s attorneys confirmed the outcome, saying, “The team successfully defended Elijah, resulting in Cher voluntarily dismissing her petition.”

They added that both sides are now focused on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues outside of court.

However, with King’s recent divorce filing and the insider’s claims, one can only wonder what will happen next.
