Cheaper by the Dozen 2 actor Robbie Amell deemed the popular movie as the “worst way to be introduced to the acting world.”
“Ninety million-dollar budget for a movie that didn’t need anywhere near that much money,” Robbie, 37, said in an episode of “The King’s Court” podcast earlier this month.
Robbie portrayed Daniel Murtaugh in his debut role in the 2005 family film, starring Steve Martin and Eugene Levy. The movie featured a handful of popular child actors, including Hilary Duff, Ashton Kutcher and Alyson Stoner, which didn’t allow everyone to get a lot of screen time.
“I was like, ‘This is the easiest job in the world.’ I also had nothing to do,” Robbie said during the podcast as he described a normal day on set.
“That was my job one day to just drive around a jet ski, bring it back in when it needs gas, bring it back out. And it was just like they were shooting a scene up on a dock, and we were in the background,” he explained. “One of the other days, they’re like, you guys are out on the water trampoline today.”
Cheaper by the Dozen 2 was a hit after the original film was released in 2003. In the sequel, big Hollywood stars including Eugene and Carmen Electra joined the cast as Jimmy and Sarina Murtaugh. Together, they shared eight children, one of whom Robbie portrayed.
Fans of the film shared their love of the movie in the comments section of the podcast’s Instagram post, sharing that the feel-good movie never gets old.
“Wait he was in that movie? Oh he must have been one of Eugene Levy kids, I only remember the girl who kissed super man and Tayler Lautner,” one fan wrote.
A second person added, “Still rewatch the movies to today’s world haha, I also met him last year! Was amazing!”
