Alice in Chains had to cancel their show Thursday, May 8, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Montville, Conn. after the band’s drummer Sean Kinney suffered an unspecified medical emergency.

“After our soundcheck this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Sean experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency,” bass player Mike Inez posted to his social media accounts. “We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”

Fans were quick to offer their well wishes to the ailing drummer with one writing, “Light and Love to Sean,” and another offering, “Prayers up for Sean. 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿.”

The band’s next scheduled date is Saturday, May 10 at the WMMR 93.3 Philadelphia MMR*B*Q. Alice in Chains have more U.S dates through May 17 before traveling to the U.K. on June 5 for Black Sabbath’s farewell show. Inez once played bass in Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band.

Along with Pearl Jam and Nirvana, Alice in Chains was one of the most popular bands to emerge from the Seattle area in the ‘90s, with such hits as “Man in the Box” the chart-topping Jar of Flies EP in 1994 and self-titled album the following year.

Although original lead singer Layne Staley died in 2002 from a heroin overdose, the band is still in action with singer/guitarist William DuVall, who has been fronting the band since 2006, and original songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell.
