As anybody who can sing all the lyrics to “Right Here Waiting for You” knows, it was nearly impossible to turn on a radio during the late 1980s without hearing Richard Marx. He was one of the most successful pop stars of the decade, spawning 14 top 20 singles throughout his career — and as it turns out, he’s still making music his fans adore.
Marx, 61, took to TikTok this week to share a video of himself singing one of his new songs, called “Forget About the World.”
“Rome is burning and it′s raining red, feels like everything’s hanging by a thread,” he sang, wearing a blue t-shirt and sitting in front of a wall of guitars. “Can’t even bet on tomorrow′s light, so let′s hold each other close and forget about the world tonight,” he continued.
Fans in the comments couldn’t get over the new song — or the singer’s shockingly youthful appearance.
“You still write great songs and apparently don’t age either. You’re like the Paul Rudd of the music world lol,” joked one person.
“great hook Richard love it,” somebody raved, with another commenter adding, “encore! encore!”
“The man, the myth, the legend, RICHARD MARX!!!” declared someone else.
Earlier this year, Marx opened up to Billboard about reinventing himself as a songwriter-producer in the late 1990s, penning hits for a variety of major artists and acts.

“I set my attention to that and boom, *NSYNC happened,” he told the outlet.
“Boom, Josh Groban happened,” he continued, adding, “Boom, Keith Urban happened. It started to be this avalanche of work, writing more music and producing more music than I had done in my artist career, and having tremendous success.”
“Forget About the World” was written as a collaboration with his sons, Brandon, Jesse and Lucas, he explained — and he hopes to work with them again soon.
“I just said to them, ‘Can we please make this an annual event where the four of us get in a room? I want to do this till I die,'” Marx recalled.
