Leave it to Chappell Roan to make a splash with her Met Gala debut.
For the first time ever, the Grammy-winning pop star ascended the iconic carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for fashion’s biggest night. Known for serving unforgettable red carpet moments, the “Pink Pony Club” singer made sure to deliver with her 2025 Met Gala look, which consisted of a gigantic hot pink patchwork coat trimmed with glittery fur. Underneath, she continued the pink streak in a bedazzled jacket and a pair of matching bell bottoms.
The dress code for this year’s Met Gala is “Tailored for You,” which is derived from the theme of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The Institute developed the theme by taking inspiration from Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, a 2009 book by Barnard College professor Monica L. Miller.
“I feel that the show itself marks a really important step in our commitment to diversifying our exhibitions and collections, as well as redressing some of the historical biases within our curatorial practice,” head curator Andrew Bolton said. “It’s very much about making fashion at the Met more of a gateway to access and inclusivity.”
This is the first exhibition since 2003 that will be solely focused on menswear. Appropriately, Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton have been appointed as co-chairs.
Roan is known for her inventive red-carpet and onstage style. Her stylist Genesis Webb previously opened up about curating the singer’s signature wardrobe in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “I love that Chappell World is opening me up to, like, ‘Oh, we can do a little color, we can add more, take more risks,’” Webb said. “And I’ve just gained a huge appreciation for the campy theatrical aspect not being so dark, like McQueen.”
