  • Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company, LLC has issued a recall of one of its products due to undeclared almonds and cashews in a chocolate-covered nut item, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration notes.

  • These chocolate-covered nuts were sold and distributed across the country.

  • Here’s a list of the affected products.

There’s another food recall to know before your next grocery shopping trip. Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company issued a voluntary recall of some of its products. Some of the company’s chocolate-covered nuts were sold with undeclared almonds and cashews, which are considered severe allergens for some people and can cause life-threatening allergic reactions.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shared the company’s announcement on April 25, 2025, the same day it was issued by Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company, LLC. In the safety alert, the FDA described how the Kea’au, Hawaii company came to recall the Mauna Loa Dark Chocolate Covered Macadamias, which are sold in both .6-ounce and 4-ounce bags.

The alert says that the bags were sold and distributed in the following states and territory:

  • Arizona

  • California

  • Colorado

  • Florida

  • Hawaii

  • Illinois

  • Maine

  • Michigan

  • New Jersey

  • Oregon

  • Pennsylvania

  • Texas

  • Utah

  • Virginia

  • Washington

  • Wisconsin

  • Guam

The company says that the recalled items include .6-ounce bags with a UPC 0 72992 05464 4, lot numbers K5069C1 and K5069C2, and a by date of 10/2026. Additionally, the company shared that the 4-ounce bags have UPC 0 72992 05556 6, lot numbers B4339E1 and B4340E1, and a best by date of 07/2026.

According to the FDA’s announcement, the recall came about after a routine quality control inspection found that a third-party co-manufacturer’s product contained undeclared almonds and cashews. Due to the potential for severe allergic reactions, the company said it immediately alerted the co-manufacturer, consumers, and distributors to have the items pulled from shelves.

Those without a known allergy to cashews or almonds should be fine to eat them. However, anyone who purchased these items and has an allergy to cashews or almonds is advised not to consume these products. Instead, they should return the product to their point of purchase.

A severe allergic reaction may result in anaphylactic shock, which includes difficulty breathing. Symptoms may include wheezing, swelling, difficulty swallowing, and shortness of breath. Those with more severe anaphylaxis can die as a result of their exposure to the allergen.

Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company, LLC may be reached directly for questions. Those who need to get in touch with the company can do so by contacting its customer service department by phone, Monday through Friday, at 1-888-255-5998.

Fortunately, no illnesses or injuries have been reported to the FDA as a result of this recall as of the publication date.
