Carol Burnett’s Comeback to Bold Male Fan’s Question in Resurfaced Clip Is Comedy Gold originally appeared on Parade.
The Carol Burnett Show was a trailblazing variety show featuring Burnett, Lyle Waggoner, Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, and Vicki Lawrence. The hilarious comedy show ran from 1967 to 1978. In addition to the iconic sketches fans came to expect—and the highly anticipated cast member who couldn’t keep his or her composure—a highlight of The Carol Burnett Show was Burnett’s candid question-and-answer period with the in-studio audience.

Prior to each show, Burnett would take the stage alone, tell the stage manager to “bump up the lights,” and then randomly pick audience members who had questions for the famous funny lady. In a recently resurfaced clip, an audience member asked Burnett a potentially off-putting question.
“Is it true to get on television,” the audience member asked, “all you need is a pretty face?”
Without missing a beat, Burnett broke into a hysterical laugh before dramatically confessing, “Yes.”
She then smugly mugged for the audience before blowing the audience member who asked the question fake kisses.
As the audience cackled and savored every bit of Burnett’s bit, the comedian capped off the moment by asking the audience member, “What are you doing after the show?”
The entire exchange showcased Burnett’s exceptional talent—even without a script. Fans couldn’t get enough.
