It simply doesn’t get more Americana than Bruce Springsteen.

The legendary rocker, 75, has been a fixture of the music industry since the 1970s, and as Springsteen will tell you himself, he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

“At this late date, like we say in the film, we’re going to be rolling until the wheels come off,” Springsteen told Vanity Fair in an interview published on Tuesday, April 29.

The film he’s referring to, of course, is Road Diary. The 2024 documentary is a movie about Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band World Tour.

The tour began on February 1, 2023, and is set to conclude on July 3, 2025, in Milan, Italy.

“I mean there’s a lot of reasons bands stay together. You know, money. Uh … money. And money,” Springsteen joked of the band’s longevity. “So in our case, we’re lucky. Our band still legitimately likes one another. The film sort of encapsulates an amazing thing—the band remains as committed to its ideals as it was from the beginning.”

As of 2025, the E Street Band consists of Springsteen on lead vocals, guitar, and harmonica; Steven Van Zandt on guitar and vocals; Max Weinberg on drums; Garry Tallent on bass; Roy Bittan on piano and keyboards; Nils Lofgren on guitar and vocals; Charlie Giordano on organ and accordion; Jake Clemons on saxophone; and Soozie Tyrell on violin, guitar, and vocals.

Also speaking with Vanity Fair, Weinberg, 74, recalled speaking with Springsteen in the early aughts about touring so much, and the sheer stamina it takes.

“Bruce will remember this. It was outside of Philadelphia, and we had yet another show to do. [I said,] ‘Bruce, how do you do this twice in a row?’ He said, ‘The key is, you don’t pace yourself. You give a thousand percent all the time.’ And that was really important to hear,” the drummer said. “When you adopt that and internalize it, it just becomes a natural way of doing it.”

To which Springsteen concluded, “It’s a good job … and it pays very well.”
