Brooke Shields has learned a few tricks over the years when it comes to dating, and she’s imparting her wisdom on her daughters. While her advice might not be the most conventional, it sure is funny.
The Blue Lagoon star joined Swarovski at their New York City flagship store last night for a panel on sustainability in fashion. In addition to talking about gems, jewels, and crystals, she shared some strategic relationship guidance.

“I say this to my daughter, ‘If you want something from your boyfriend or you want to do something or go to a certain restaurant, make it his idea,'” she said with a smile, eliciting a roar of laughter from the audience. “She’s like, ‘That’s not feminist at all!’ I was like ‘It’s actually the most feminist thing you can imagine. The sooner you learn that, the better restaurants you’ll be going to.'”
Shields is a proud mom-of-two to Grier, 18, and Rowan, 21, whom she shares with her husband, Chris Henchy.

The model’s nugget of wisdom came from conversation about how to get the fashion industry and consumers to adopt more sustainable practices. Shields believes one way to do so is to send subliminal messages. She gives the example of how she intends to include a scene of her using a compost bucket in her new show. The luxury jewelry brand has done this by launching ReCreated Crystals, which are mounted on a recycled metal base and come in packaging made from recycled paper.
“What I like about fashion doing it is because they’re still maintaining their creativity and still maintaining their art, but they’re doing it in a way that combines them and sometimes it’s subliminal,” Shields explained. “I think we need to get under the skin of people so that they feel like they’re making he decision…We have to change the narrative, the way we talk about it because it’s not about shaming people, it’s about inspiring them.”

For the event, titled “Unlocking Creativity as a Force for Good,” shields was joined by Melissa Fleming, under-secretary-general for global communications at the United Nations, and Jakhya Rahman-Corey, director of the Swarovski Foundation. The brand launched a pin featuring the crystals in partnership with the intergovernmental organization; 85 percent of the purchase price of the pins will be donated toward causes related to Sustainability Development Goals.
The Commence founder was, of course, dripping in Swarovski jewelry for the occasion. Shields arrived with a stack of translucent green and pink bangles, a matching ring, statement choker necklace, and drop earrings, all fixed with a shiny crystal. She leaned into the pink theme with a sleeveless column dress that featured a cutout just beneath her bust, matching peep-toe mules, a silver studded clutch, and tinted shades. She finished her fabulous look off with loose curls and rosy glam.
