Wedding dress codes vary by season, theme, and formality, but one rule generally applies across the board: don’t wear white. Unfortunately, not all guests are prepared to abide by this guideline, even if it means showing up the bride. Case in point? One woman’s sister-in-law, who actually wore white to attend her wedding.

One attendee shared photos of the dress code violation on Reddit. The two images show a woman wearing an off-the-shoulder “green” gown with floral appliqués that simply cannot be mistaken for any color other than white. In the second image, the sister-in-law appears to be holding a veil that is actually her daughter’s, who was the flower girl.

“The gf of the grooms brother wore a sage green (wedding) dress that in no way, shape or form appeared to be sage green, or any other color,” the guest wrote, adding that the dress code was “summer pastel chique.”

What’s more, it turns out that the sister-in-law wasn’t the only guest who wanted to disregard the dress code; apparently the mother-in-law “asked the bride if she could wear a white jumpsuit to the wedding.”

The bride, obviously, said “no.”

The comments section was full of users who were (unsurprisingly) outraged on the bride’s behalf. One even joked that every bride should bring a paintball gun to her wedding in order to “enforce” the dress code with some color, quite literally.

Others jokingly referenced the Schitt’s Creek finale in which Alexis wears a wedding dress to her brother David’s wedding and insists that it is merely a “white floor-length gown.”

On the other hand, one user noted that telling people to wear pastels was “asking for trouble,” given how some pastel colors can appear white, especially in flash photographs. “The dress code set guests up to fail,” another added, “but SIL chose to lean in harder than a mf.”
