A bride-to-be has found herself in a hairy situation after refusing her sister’s request to allow her beloved dog to serve as the ring bearer in her wedding.
The 27-year-old bride detailed the dilemma in a post on Reddit, beginning by explaining that she and her fiancé, 29, are set to get married in September and are planning “a small, semiformal outdoor ceremony at a historic garden venue.” Their intention is to keep the event fairly traditional — “nothing too over-the-top, just classy and simple,” she noted.
The OP (original poster)’s 31-year-old sister — who is “obsessed” with her dog, a golden retriever named Waffles, and treats him “like a child” — requested that Waffles serve as ring bearer in the wedding. “Like, dressed in a tiny tux, walking down the aisle with the rings tied to his back,” the OP said.

“I laughed at first and said I didn’t think the venue even allowed pets. She got very serious and said she already checked — they do, as long as the dog is leashed and supervised,” the OP recalled. “I told her no, it just doesn’t fit the vibe we’re going for, and I didn’t want a dog in our ceremony, even a well-behaved one.”
The bride said her sister then “flipped out,” accusing her of being “controlling” and “hating fun.”
“She even posted some passive-aggressive stuff on Instagram about how some people ‘don’t understand the bond between a girl and her dog,’ ” the OP added. “My mom is on her side and says it’s ‘just one little thing’ and I should compromise because it’s important to her.”
Seeking feedback from fellow Redditors, the bride asked if she’s wrong to refuse her sister’s request while noting, “But it’s my wedding and I just want it to be simple and human-only.”

In the comments section, most readers had the same take on the situation: The OP is fully entitled to have the final say over any decisions regarding her wedding.
“It’s your wedding, not hers. If you want it pet-free, then do it. It’s not even your dog, so why would it be in your wedding? Let alone in your wedding party?” one person said, adding, “Tell sis that if she wants her dog to be a ring bearer so bad, she should get married, then she can do whatever she wants at her wedding.”

Another individual agreed, writing: “It’s your wedding, and the only person you need to compromise with is the person you’re marrying. Everyone, from Waffles on down, gets to fall in line with your wishes in this regard.”
As for how to respond to her mother, readers advised the OP to stand her ground and tell her “you have no desire or obligation to compromise here.”
