Bride Is ‘Sad’ Her Grandparents Won’t Attend Either of Her 2 Weddings, Refuses to Accept Their Gift

  • A bride wrote in a post on Reddit that she is “sad” her grandparents won’t attend either of her two weddings. Now, she refuses to accept their monetary wedding gift

  • The bride noted that her grandparents knew of both wedding dates before booking a flight to Europe. They also “aren’t very old and are very active for their age,” so they would be able to travel easily to her nuptials, but are choosing not to

  • Reddit users commented that the bride is not being a “bridezilla” for feeling “hurt,” but suggested that she accept her grandparents’ money

A bride-to-be is upset that her grandparents won’t make it to either of her two weddings.

The woman shared in a post on Reddit’s popular “Bridezillas” forum that she has two upcoming weddings, one in Canada and another in Europe. Despite the bride hosting more than one wedding ceremony this summer, her grandparents have decided to skip both.

“Am I being a bridezilla by being hurt that they aren’t attending either wedding?” she asked the forum.

The bride explained that her grandparents divide where they reside during the year by spending six months in Canada and six months in Europe. The two have decided to leave for Europe next week, which makes them unable to attend their granddaughter’s June wedding in Canada.

“They leave [for] Europe on Saturday but they couldn’t have just waited a month to come to my wedding?” the bride questioned.

The bride’s second wedding is also located in a different country in Europe than where her grandparents are staying, so they’ll be missing out on that ceremony too as they refuse to take a “one day train ride or two hour plane ride” to attend the nuptials.

The bride’s grandparents “aren’t very old and are very active for their age” so she knows they would be able to travel easily, which makes their decision to not do so hurt even more. Her parents were even willing to “meet them at the airport and have a car rental and everything” to take them to the wedding, yet they still declined.

“They go to Europe every single year, it’s not something new. I’m the first grandchild and probably the only one to get married,” the Redditor said.

She also noted that her grandparents were informed about her weddings in the fall “before they booked any tickets.”

In lieu of their attendance, the grandparents gave the bride’s mother “money” as a “wedding gift,” but the bride “didn’t want to accept it because [she’s] sad that they’re not coming.” Not accepting their gift made the bride’s mother feel like she was a “bad guy.”

“Is it wrong for me to expect my grandparents to be at my wedding? Was I acting like a bridezilla?” the bride concluded her post.

In the comments section, one Reddit user wrote that the incident “doesn’t make you a bridezilla — it makes you a hurt granddaughter.” They added that she “can’t force people to come” to her wedding.

“I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want to see you married, that’s a little strange,” the individual continued, before suggesting that she take the money, writing, “It is their loss, not yours.”

Another person agreed with the sentiment, commenting, “You’re not a bridezilla, not at all. I’m sorry your grandparents seem so disinterested in your wedding. It’s their loss, not getting to see that, and I hope you can focus on those who will be there to celebrate with you.”
