Here’s the ultimate breakdown of the ending of Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.

So let’s back up a bit…

In the film, we discover that Bob is actually Sentry, a former project from O.X.E. Group to create a new kind of hero that would be able to take down any threat alone. However, we find out that Sentry’s powers, which includes turning into the Void, allows him to turn people into shadows and keeping them in an internal loop inside their consciousnesses. After being betrayed by Valentina and Mel, he turns into the Void and starts to go after the entire city.

After reconciling with Red Guardian, Yelena sees what is happening around her and decides that the only way to be able to turn Bob back is to get sucked into the consciousness herself. She enters the Void, much to everyone’s surprise, and attempts to try to escape the memory of her betraying her friend back when she was younger.

Is Yelena able to get out?

Yelena slowly discovers that there is a way to go from one memory to another through a set of portals. She starts to find them one by one on her search for Bob. Eventually, she is able to find him and their consciousness are connected via the Void and tries to talk to him. However, the Void, who wants to keep Bob inside, starts to attack them both. The rest of the Thunderbolts also come to the same realization as Yelena and appear in the same memory, saving them.

Yelena recommends that they go to Bob’s worst memory which so happens to be the first day of the Sentry experiment. The Void quickly attacks Bob and also apprehends the rest of the Thunderbolts, to keep them from helping Bob. They try to encourage Bob to fight back, but the Void almost completely takes over before Yelena is able to free herself and helps Bob. The rest of the team soon follow and they manage to overcome the Void’s darkness with their light, allowing them to reverse everything that happened and bring everyone back from the Void.

So everything is good now?

Yes, they have managed to settle things down for now, bringing everyone back from the Void including that little girl that Red Guardian was originally talking to. Bob is also back, but he doesn’t seem to remember everything that happened when the Void took over.

Valentina is seen near the group and tries to run away from them as they try to arrest her over everything O.X.E. Group and her have done. There is a green tarp that blocks them from seeing where she goes next and as they go through it, they realize that she has actually tricked them and Valentina set up a press conference. She lies to the public by saying that this was all a part to introduce them as the New Avengers. Yelena, obviously angry at her tricking them, tells her that they own her now, causing Valentina to tense up over what might happen to her next.
