Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, has passed away following a prolonged and private battle with cancer. He was 48. His 18-year-old son, Seth Blackstock, is now sharing a heartfelt tribute to the man he calls “my hero.”
The “Since U Been Gone” singer quietly supported Blackstock—whom she shares two children, River, 11,and Remy, 9, with—even taking time off from The Kelly Clarkson Show and canceling the remainder of her August dates for her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace to support her family.

Now, Blackstock’s son Seth, whose mother is Brandon Blackstock’s first wife Melissa Ashworth, is honoring his father with a deeply emotional message shared on social media.
“I lost my hero yesterday. Words can’t describe how proud I am of you for raising me and your three other kids,” Seth wrote in the caption of a series of photos.
“You were a father, a son, a brother, and most importantly, my best friend. You’ll have to watch me grow up from a bird’s eye view now, but that’s okay with me. There’s no one else on this earth I’d want to be my dad, because no one could be half the man you were to me. I’ll see you every day when the sun rises and falls.
I can confidently say all the deer and elk took a sigh of relief when the best hunter I’ve ever known laid his rifle down for the last time. I love you so much and can’t wait to throw a line in the water with you again. Love you, Dad. Be good or be good at it.

Clarkson and Blackstock separated in 2020, finalizing their divorce in March 2022 after a long and contentious legal battle. Clarkson was often photographed with her stepson Seth and his sister Savannah, now 23, alongside her own two children with Blackstock.
