Brandon Blackstock was the father of four children.

The talent manager, who died on Aug. 7, shared two kids, Savannah and Seth, with his ex-wife Melissa Ashworth, whom he split from in 2012. He then welcomed two children with Kelly Clarkson, daughter River in 2014 and son Remy in 2016.

Blackstock and Clarkson split in June 2020, with their divorce being finalized in March 2022. In November 2020, Clarkson was awarded primary physical custody of River and Remy, though Blackstock remained in their lives and shared joint legal custody.

While much of their split had been in the spotlight, Blackstock had been privately dealing with a cancer diagnosis behind the scenes for three years. A rep for the family announced his death at 48 years old on Aug. 7.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the statement read. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

The news came one day after the “Piece by Piece” singer announced on Instagram that she was postponing the remainder of her Las Vegas residency to be “fully present” for her children.

Here’s everything to know about Brandon Blackstock’s four children: Savannah, Seth, River and Remy.

Savannah

Blackstock welcomed his first child, daughter Savannah, with Ashworth.

Savannah appeared to have a close bond with her dad. In December 2018, she shared an Instagram photo from a father-daughter ski trip. Just months later in February 2019, Savannah wrote on the platform that he was “hands down” her “favorite person.”

Blackstock became a grandparent in January 2022 when Savannah welcomed her first child with Quentin Lee. Savannah and Lee married in September 2023, per her Instagram.

The pair, who are now parents to two children, announced in a July 2025 Instagram post that they are currently expecting a “little girl,” who is due in January 2026.

According to her Instagram bio, Savannah works in real estate.

Seth

Blackstock and Ashworth also welcomed a son named Seth.

Seth has largely lived a private life, although he joined Clarkson onstage during a July 2015 show in Hershey, Pa., where they performed a mashup of her hit “Walk Away” with Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” per Taste of Country. He also joined his family at the premiere of Ugly Dolls in April 2019.

In honor of the American Idol winner’s 38th birthday in April 2020, Seth joined his dad and siblings to wish the singer a happy birthday in a sweet video.

“Happy Birthday Kelly, I love you,” Seth said in the video, which Clarkson reposted on X, writing that she was “bawling.”

“They’re all so cute! I’ve had a bit of a rough week and this just turned it around,” Clarkson continued.

River Rose

On June 12, 2014, Blackstock and Clarkson welcomed their first child together: daughter River Rose.

“Our baby girl River Rose Blackstock arrived on June 12th!” Clarkson posted on X at the time. “Thank you everyone for all of your well wishes! Brandon and I are on cloud 9!! :).”

In April 2018, Clarkson opened up to PEOPLE about what it’s been like raising her “ballsy” toddler.

“She will run a company one day because there’s no way she’s gonna work for anyone,” the singer said of River. “She does not heed advice very well. She’s just very ballsy, which is awesome.”

Clarkson added that River is “very bold” and “progressive,” and shared that she enjoys watching Jurassic Park and Harry Potter.

River has been in the spotlight from a young age, from riding along with Clarkson in the 2016 Nashville Christmas Parade to serving as the inspiration for the singer’s children’s book, River Rose and the Magical Lullaby, which she released that same year.

River is also featured in her mom’s 10th studio album, Chemistry, making a cameo in the track, “you don’t make me cry.”

River has also sung in front of a live audience multiple times. In August 2023, she joined her mom onstage to sing “Heartbeat Song” during a Las Vegas concert, and performed it again as a duet during Clarkson’s Las Vegas residency in July 2025.

Remington “Remy”

Blackstock and Clarkson welcomed their second child together, son Remington “Remy” Alexander, on April 12, 2016.

According to Clarkson, Remy’s personality certainly differs from his big sister’s.

“They’re not shy at all, but they’re just different,” Clarkson told PEOPLE in April 2018. “He could care less that you’re in the room, and she wants everybody to know she’s in there.”

In fact, Clarkson told PEOPLE in May 2019 that Remy didn’t even know his mom was famous.

“I think they look at me as ‘Mom,’ so they don’t really even [think about it],” she said of her children. “[Remington] has no idea. They’re just very normal. We’re not like, in the scene, ever.”

That seems to have changed since Remy has grown up, as, like River, he joined his mom onstage during an August 2023 show of her Las Vegas residency. Rather than singing a duet, he performed as a backup dancer as Clarkson sang “Whole Lotta Woman.”

In February 2024, Remy stepped out with his mom as her date to the 66th annual Grammy Awards, where he posed with Clarkson on the red carpet. There, he sported a red velvet suit, ruffled shirt and a colorful boutonniere made from Lego bricks.

More recently, Remy seems to be following in his mom’s musical footsteps as he surprised her with a performance of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” before taping began for a November 2024 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show — which she then played for the audience.

“He just walked right in today and said, ‘Who do I need to speak to to sing my song?’ I said, ‘Okay, sir!’ ” Clarkson explained after the video played.
