Anticipation is building for Brad Pitt‘s high-speed Formula One-inspired film — appropriately titled F1 — and with a new trailer dropping today (May 12), it is safe to say that fans are being pushed further and further towards the edge of their seats.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski with a screenplay written by Ehren Kruger, the film features Pitt in the leading role — portraying the one and only Sonny Hayes on the big screen — as well as Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia and Javier Bardem.
To top it off, real-life Formula One drivers will have special appearances throughout the film as well: Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Nico Hülkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Nyck de Vries, Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon.
As if the cast wasn’t spectacular enough, F1 is certain to have a spectacular soundtrack as well, scored by Hans Zimmer and featuring songs by Don Oliver, Doja Cat, Dom Dolla, Nathan Nicholson, Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, Rosé, Burna Boy, Roddy Ricch, Raye, Chris Stapleton, Myke Towers, Tiësto, Sexy Red, Madison Beer, Peggy Gou, PAWSA, Mr Eazi, Darkoo and Obongjayar.
As far as the plot goes, F1 will focus on the career of Sonny Hayes, a fictional Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s and was forced to retire after a terrible accident. In the film, Hayes will come out of retirement to drive alongside (and mentor) rookie Joshua “Noah” Pearce — played by Idris — on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).
After today’s trailer gave fans an even deeper dive into what F1 will entail, there was some immediate discourse via Reddit. “I don’t really feel any particular way about the movie, but at least it’s cool how it’s set alongside the real F1 and the drivers and not an entirely fictional grid with cars and tracks that are an approximation,” one user wrote, summing up the thoughts of many Formula One fans.
