(The Center Square) — The Bossier City Council had a quick meeting this week with every item on the short agenda earning passage.
When introducing an ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 2 of 2025 concerning sanitation rates on Tuesday, there were no comments from the public or the council surrounding the issue. Previously, sanitation rate increases sparked debate among the public as apartment complex owners in Bossier City felt the rates were unfair after seeing their first bill.
Four items up for final reading passed, including an ordinance authorizing an amendment concerning Waggnor Engineering, an ordinance amending the 2025 Public Services and Sanitation Fund budget by $100,000 to increase expenditures, an ordinance establishing a tax reduction audit of municipal finances and an ordinance declaring certain movable equipment surplus.
Under new business, the council heard eight items, four of which were resolutions receiving first and final reading votes.
The council voted in favor of a resolution requesting a comprehensive plan for enhancements to the Interstate 20 exit and on-ramps. They also passed resolutions endorsing the administration to engage a professional marketing firm, parks and recreation to fill a maintenance position and amended the fiscal year 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 Action Plans for Community Development Block Grant funds and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
Other things discussed and successfully introduced included an ordinance appropriating $280,000 from the Equipment Replacement Fund to the Drainage Fund. The funds would buy an wheeled excavator for maintaining streets and ditches.
The council also introduced an ordinance authorizing an agreement between Bossier and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for a state project that would be at no cost to Bossier.
The city could potentially receive grant funds from the Safe Routes to Public Places Program to use for sidewalks on Benton Road, Shed Road and to repair the railroad crossing at Benton Road.
