Bob Dylan, the legendary 84-year-old songwriter, has reportedly returned to the recording studio. The iconic musician recently spent two days at White Lake Studios in Colonie, New York, sparking speculation about a potential new album release.
According to a press statement from White Lake Studios, Dylan worked alongside members of his band during the recording sessions this past week.
“The studio team had been preparing for the visit in advance and worked diligently to ensure discretion and privacy throughout the session,” the release stated.
While the specific nature of Dylan’s studio work remains undisclosed, fans have begun speculating about the possibilities. One person suggested, “New album maybe,” while another celebrated, “omg this is gonna be great.”
The recording sessions could mark Dylan’s first studio work for an album since his 2020 release, Rough and Rowdy Ways — his last in five years. David Bourgeois, CEO of White Lake Studios, expressed his enthusiasm about hosting the Nobel Prize-winning artist.
“We want every artist and guest to feel relaxed and at home,” he said. “We’ve had the privilege of working with many remarkable talents over the years, but this visit was truly special. I’m incredibly proud of our team.”
Dylan’s recent studio time came in the midst of his ongoing tour commitments. The sessions were held between dates on Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour, where Dylan is currently performing.
The timing is especially notable following the announcement of new U.K. and Ireland tour dates, part of the ongoing Rough and Rowdy Ways tour. That series began in November 2021, following the release of Dylan’s critically acclaimed 2020 album of the same name.
So far, the tour has completed ten legs, including a North American run in March and April that featured rare performances of classic songs — among them, “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” played live for the first time in 15 years.
The U.K. and Ireland leg will begin on November 7. As with other recent shows, the use of mobile phones and video cameras will be strictly prohibited, in keeping with Dylan’s preference for distraction-free concert experiences.
