Blake Shelton has a couple of kind words to say about his wife, fellow musician Gwen Stefani‘s vocal abilities.
People magazine reported that Shelton, who wed Stefani in 2021, complimented her abilities as a vocalist during the May 13 episode of the TODAY show. He also said he enjoys watching her record music for her albums.
“She’s never, I don’t think ever, given herself the credit that she deserves from a vocalist standpoint,” said Shelton during the TODAY interview. “And to see her work out different harmony parts and seeing what she’s capable of, I think in the last few years, [she] really started to realize what she is capable of vocally. So being in the studio with her and watching her come up with these parts and sing them and put them down and be done and go, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe I just did that.’ It’s a lot of fun.”
Stefani, who has been in the music industry for over three decades, came out with her latest album, Bouquet, in November 2024. During a November 2024 interview with Apple Music, Stefani said she was able to channel her hurt from her 2016 divorce from her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, into the record.
“The healing takes so much time and evolution. But being able to do the music to soak up the blood a little bit really is like one of the most incredible gifts that God has given me, to be able to that,” said Stefani during the November 2024 interview.
Stefani also said she felt somewhat guilty for working on Bouquet because she wasn’t as focused on her and Rossdale’s three sons, Kingston, 18, Zuma, 16, and Apollo, 11.
“For me to take the time selfishly out of my life to be like, ‘Okay, I already rung the bell like 40 times at the top of the mountain and I won, I’m going to try to win again, and I’m going to make a record, like do art,’ I felt very selfish to do that and guilty,” said Stefani.
