Billy Idol and the late Ozzy Osbourne may both be considered rock icons, but in a sweet Instagram tribute following the Black Sabbath frontman’s passing, the “Mony Mony” singer made it clear that he’s a fan first.
“I saw Black Sabbath one month before the first album came out at Worthing town hall in 1968 I was right at the front & his tassels were touching me!” Idol recalled in a lengthy photo caption of the two of them at Osbourne’s Rock’n’Roll hall of fame induction ceremony in October.

“Ozzy embodied the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, and he performed right to the end as we all saw most recently at the back to the beginning concert,” he wrote. “My condolences to Sharon Jack Kelly, and the whole family. My heart goes out to you.”
The Osbourne family confirmed their patriarch’s passing in an Instagram post.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement read. “He was with his family and surrounded by love.”
The news of his passing comes just a few weeks after fellow rock legends including Aerosmith, Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, Lucy Hale, Axl Rose, and Travis Barker. united to celebrate him and his career.
