Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy and Demi Moore’s Cami are far from friends after the explosive events of Landman season 2. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Thornton hinted that their relationship in season 3 will be anything but cordial, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown between the former allies.
Thornton, who plays the ruthless yet charismatic oil executive Tommy, acknowledged the complexity of their dynamic. “That’s going to be an interesting dynamic,” he said. “First of all, she’s the widow of my best friend, who owned a company that I worked for and essentially ran the company, other than the financial end of it. And Cami was someone I knew for years and years and years, and all of a sudden she fires me. I mean, that’s an odd feeling to start with, you know?”
The tension between Tommy and Cami reached its peak in season 2 when Cami, now at the helm of M*Tex Oil, fired Tommy from his role as President—a position he inherited from his late best friend, Monty (Jon Hamm). The finale saw Tommy retaliate by launching his own oil company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, and poaching Cami’s most trusted team members, including Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), Dale (James Jordan), and Boss (Mustafa Speaks).
Thornton suggested that Cami’s decision to fire Tommy has set the stage for a major rivalry. “Will she become the nemesis? I don’t know,” he mused. “It seems like the natural progression … I’m thinking that, just the way they left it, that there’s got to be some kind of major competition there.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Tommy’s new venture is backed by Gallino (Andy Garcia), a cartel leader who finances CTT’s exploration in exchange for 50 percent of the profits. With Cami left scrambling to rebuild her team and Tommy positioned as a formidable competitor, the stage is set for a high-stakes battle in season 3.
Thornton also teased that season 3 could blend the best elements of the show’s first two seasons. “It seems like a natural progression to combine what season 1 was and what season 2 was,” he said. “Sort of bring the danger back from season 1, and yet still dive deeper into the people. That’s just my guess.”
As fans await the next chapter, one thing is clear: Tommy and Cami’s rivalry will be a central focus, with Thornton hinting at an “eye for an eye” mentality. “An eye for an eye,” he teased, suggesting that Tommy won’t let Cami’s betrayal go unanswered.
