Billie Lourd rang in Star Wars Day by celebrating her mother Carrie Fisher, the late star of the original film trilogy.

The American Horror Story actress shared a touching picture to her Instagram that showed her 4-year-old son, Kingston Fisher, and 2-year-old daughter, Jackson Joanne, watching Fisher in 1983’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Beginning with fans cheekily posting “May the Fourth be with you” every May 4 — a play on the common Jedi saying in the Star Wars universe, “May the Force be with you” — Star Wars Day has become a full-blown holiday.

The franchise wished fans a happy Star Wars Day on social media today by sharing a video featuring various luminaries across the Star Wars universe, including Hayden Christensen, Diego Luna, and Genevieve O’Reilly, delivering their versions of the holiday’s bespoke tagline.

Fisher, who died in 2016 at the age of 60, became a pop culture icon due to her memorable role as Princess Leia Organa in the original trilogy of Star Wars films. She reprised the role for 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, footage filmed before her death was used in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and archival footage of Fisher was repurposed for 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Lourd has her own history with the multibillion-dollar sci-fi franchise, having played Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix alongside Fisher in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

Fans and celebs alike flocked to Lourd’s post on Sunday to express their condolences for her loss.

“Oh this makes me cry. How beautiful to see their big mama. Love to you,” Rosanna Arquette, who starred alongside Fisher in 1990’s Sweet Revenge, commented.

Diana Silvers, who appeared in 2019’s Booksmart with Lourd, wrote, “Oh this is just perfect.”

Even the franchise’s official account sent love Lourd’s way, writing, “May the 4th be with you 💙.”

Lourd has helped keep her mother’s memory alive by penning and posting touching tributes.

In 2024, nearly eight years following Fisher’s death after suffering a heart attack during a flight, Lourd shared a lengthy and emotional remembrance of her mother to Instagram.

“On my mom’s birthday every year, I try to celebrate her as much as possible, but today I really wanted to celebrate her with her,” she wrote. “Some years my grief makes me feel the warmth of her love, some years it makes me angry, some years I feel numb but today when I woke up I just felt sad. I didn’t want to celebrate, I just wanted my mom.”
