Beyoncé just kicked off her Cowboy Carter Tour in Inglewood, California, making the singer’s choice to skip tonight’s New York City-based Met Gala unsurprising.
Beyoncé launched her Cowboy Carter Tour on April 28 with five shows at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium. Her most recent performance there was just last night, and her next one will be on Wednesday. It’s been nine years since Beyoncé went to the Met Gala. The singer last stepped out at the prestigious fashion event in 2016.
Beyoncé knows how to keep a low profile when she wants to. She has spent the majority of 2025 out of the public eye leading up to her concerts. In September, she spoke to GQ about the boundaries she draws between her public and private lives.
“We live in a world of access. We have access to so much information—some facts, and some complete bullshit disguised as truth,” she began. “Our children can FaceTime and see their friends at any given moment. My husband and I? We used calling cards and Skype when we were falling in love. I couldn’t afford the international hotel bills, so I literally would get international calling cards to call him. Just recently, I heard an AI song that sounded so much like me it scared me. It’s impossible to truly know what’s real and what’s not.
“One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand,” she added. “It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art. I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace.”
