It’s been nearly a year since Shannen Doherty died at the age of 53, and her former co-stars are still trying to process the loss.
In Jason Priestley‘s recent appearance on fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Jennie Garth‘s I Choose Me podcast, the pair talked about grieving both Doherty and late co-star Luke Perry, who died in 2019 at the age of 52.

“Where are you in your grief process?” Garth asked, adding, “I don’t feel like I’ve gone anywhere in my grief process. I feel like I’ve kind of stalled it so that I don’t have to accept.”
“I’m in the acceptance part with both of them,” Priestley said.
“Obviously, Luke’s passing was far more shocking than Shannen’s,” he continued.
“While Shannen was sick, you know, whenever I had the chance to spend time with her, I made sure that I said all the things I wanted to say to her,” he explained. “So when she did pass away, I feel like her and I had said everything that we needed to say to each other, which I think gave me, you know, some closure.”
Priestley had a much different experience when Perry died unexpectedly of a stroke. (Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer fin 2015.)
“Luke’s passing was so shocking and just came out of the blue, like it took me a lot longer to reconcile that and what that meant,” he explained.

As Garth pointed out, the losses of Doherty and Perry have brought the remaining 90210 cast members, including Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris and Brian Austin Green, closer together.
“I don’t think any of us take it for granted now,” she said. “I think maybe before we lost Luke…it was a little easier for us to not think about that as much, but now it’s just so in the front of my mind all the time how f—ing grateful I am to have all of you and have this shared experience that we can never forget and people will never forget.”
