  • Benny Blanco would rather be home in his couch than performing

Benny Blanco just wants to relax!

During an appearance on the June 3 episode of the Hot Hits with Nic & Loren podcast, the music producer shared his thoughts on doing live shows to support the joint album he and fiancée Selena Gomez released in March, I Said I Love You First.

“That’s like my worst nightmare,” Blanco, 37, said of performing. “Doing live shows, like, anytime I had to do SNL or like AMAs I’m always just like, ‘When’s it over? When’s it over?’ ” he said of the comedy sketch show and the American Music Awards show.

“I just want to be home on my couch,” he quipped.

Host Loren suggested that to make performing with Gomez, 32, happen, he can get a couch off to the side on a stage and pop out every now and then during the show. “Honestly, not a bad idea, guys,” Blanco responded.

The couple, who got engaged in December 2024, announced I Said I Love You First days before Valentine’s Day. The album gave “fans a unique window into their relationship,” per a press release.

The album came together “organically as a direct result of the comfort that they both felt when working together creatively, allowing them to produce art that authentically reflects their experiences.”

As for a wedding update ahead of the album’s release, the music producer and Only Murders in the Building star had none. “I think every day she’s planned a new wedding in her head,” Blanco told Rolling Stone of the impending nuptials.

“We’re very much ‘take it one day at a time’-type of people. We’re still not over this moment. Literally, while you were talking, she was sitting there staring at her ring.”

Gomez agreed. “Also, I genuinely feel like this is such a special time that we get to apply it to this album and really just pour our heart into it, and completely translate what we feel and bring it to the world,” she said. “That’s my main focus right now, at least.”

Blanco has been candid about his music career. He told InStyle in June that in his early DJing days in New York, he would drive up hours from Virginia, massive Mac computer in tow, to perform at parties in Brookyln.

After the shows, he and his friends “would sleep in the train station, a park, or even the McDonald’s in Times Square.” His parents weren’t totally aware of his unusual spot to get a few hours of rest.

“Are you kidding me? My mom would have lost her mind if she knew I was sleeping on a park bench!” he joked.
