Beloved ’80s Actress Shares Heartwarming Family Moment with Dolly Parton originally appeared on Parade.
’80s actress Danica McKellar took to Instagram to share a family moment with Dolly Parton. The former Wonder Years star, who starred with the singer in 2019’s fan favorite Christmas at Dollywood, revealed that she and her family celebrated her mother’s birthday at the opening night of Parton’s new Broadway-bound musical in Nashville.
McKellar posted a carousel of pictures, featuring her, her mother and her husband Scott Sveslosky alongside Parton. McKellar captioned the pics: “Dolly Parton!! 🦋 What a special way to celebrate my mom’s birthday – attending the opening night of @dollymusical at the @thefishercenter in Nashville last night. It’s a fantastic show, omg!! And getting to see her in person was an incredible bonus – I hadn’t seen her since we worked together in 2019. 💞”
The actress, who has since become a fixture on the Hallmark and Great American Family channels, praised the new production, which is set to make its way to Broadway in 2026. “I highly recommend @dollymusical – this beautiful, wildly entertaining trubute to this timeless legend – whether here in Nashville or when it hits Broadway. 🎭 Thank you for an incredible evening, @dollyparton. 🦋 And mom – happy birthday!!”

The post was met with sweet comments from fans who were thrilled by the star-studded reunion. “That’s so awesome! What a wonderful experience!❤️ Dolly has always been one of our favorite performers. She is just as kind as she is talented,” one fan gushed. Another commenter noted the similarities between the two stars, writing, “You and Dolly share so much. Class, beauty and talent to begin with. The light you both bring into this world is something both needed and revered by those feeling it.”

Danica McKellar’s fans were quick to point out the parallels between the two women. One wrote, “Meeting someone with similar brain power to yours! After all, she showed up to the initial meetings for 9 to 5 having memorized the entire script.” This observation isn’t far off: after her time on The Wonder Years, McKellar took a four-year break from acting to pursue a degree in mathematics. She earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and co-authored a paper that led to the “Percolation and Gibbs States Multiplicity for Ferromagnetic Ashkin-Teller Models on Two Dimensions, or Z2” theorem.
