The 2025 Cannes Film Festival is officially here—with a few last-minute twists. The festival announced on Monday, a day before the premieres started, that celebrity-favorite naked dresses and disruptive trains would not be allowed on the red carpet this year. Remember Bella Hadid’s iconic Schiaparelli dress and lung necklace from 2021? No more of that.
“For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival,” reads the dress code on the Cannes website. “Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre are not permitted. The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
It was a quick change-up for France’s most fashion-forward red carpet. And with short notice of the new dress code, some stars ended up following the rules more than others (see: Wan QianHui and Heidi Klum’s rebellious flowing trains).
But overall, these celebrities are seasoned black-tie pros, and they still managed to kick off the film festival in style. Supermodels are already stealing the show, with appearances from Bella Hadid, Irina Shayk, and Alessandra Ambrosio. As the festival continues, catch all the best looks from the red carpet, below.
