Ashlee Simpson Reveals How Diana Ross Is as a Mother-in-Law & a Grandma originally appeared on Parade.
Singer and actress Ashlee Simpson is opening up about her relationship with her mother-in-law, Diana Ross.
Simpson, who shares her eldest child, Bronx, 16, with her ex-husband Fall Out Boy frontman Pete Wentz, married Diana’s son Evan Ross in 2014. Ross and Simpson have two children, Ziggy, 4, and Jagger, 10.
During the August 11 episode of Trixie Mattel‘s YouTube series, Out of Pocket, Simpson said Diana is “the best.” According to Simpson, “she is a great grandma and mother-in-law.”
“My kids have seen a lot of stage shows because of her. And she lets the grandkids go on the stage. They love her,” said Simpson during the interview.
Simpson gave her mother-in-law a glowing review in a June 2025 interview with Access Hollywood. Simpson said there’s “nothing better” than spending time with her children and the legendary singer.
“She’s just a family person. And she’s still touring. And she’s just an amazing mother and grandma. And she goes out there and she works hard,” said Simpson to the publication.
Simpson, who is starting her Las Vegas residency in late August, said she appreciates that Diana has been able to prioritize her family while also performing.
“That’s where I fully look up to her. Because it’s always prioritizing your family first. And then for me to get back into this and being inspired by her, throughout this is exciting. You can be an artist and you can be a family and you can be a woman as well,” said Simpson.
In addition, Simpson said her children are interested in performing. She said Bronx “is a beautiful writer” and is “great at the guitar.”
“He’s doing great. This summer he’s working a music job,” said Simpson.
She also said that Ziggy “has been singing a lot” and Jagger enjoys the spotlight.
“I love to dance with [Jagger]. She’s always putting a show on,” said the “Pieces of Me” singer during the interview.
