Neither Meghan Markle nor Prince Harry has ever attended the Met Gala, and understandably, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose not to leave their home and children, Archie and Lilibet, in Montecito, California, to have a date night at tonight’s prestigious New York City event. They had a good reason to stay put: Archie’s sixth birthday is on May 6, the day after the Met Gala.
Meghan shared a look at Harry, Archie, and Lilibet over the weekend. She posted an Instagram of them with no caption on Saturday, showing support for her husband following his May 2 BBC interview. Harry spoke to the outlet about not feeling comfortable bringing his family to the U.K. after losing his court appeal for automatic police protection when they visit.

“I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point,” he said. “The things that they’re going to miss is, well, everything. I love my country. I always have done, despite what some people in that country have done.”
“I miss the U.K., I miss parts of the U.K., of course I do,” he added. “I think that it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
While Meghan has not discussed the court case, she recently spoke about how moved she is by Harry’s devotion to her and their children. During her appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Meghan said she believes her marriage to Harry will last “forever.”
“There’s something that is not to be taken for granted when you have a partner and a spouse who is just so behind you,” Meghan said. “You know, I mean, H, that man loves me so much. And you know, look what we built. We’ve built a beautiful life, and we have two healthy, beautiful children. And you know, I always think about it like the end of Super Mario Brothers when you get to the final, final level. And what’s the goal in Super Mario? They’re like, slay the dragon, save the princess. I’m like, that’s my husband….He’s just going to do whatever he can to make sure that our family is safe and protected, and we’re uplifted and still make time for date nights.”
