With the premiere of Severance season two in January, Apple revealed an increase in Apple TV+ subscriptions compared to previous months. But was that enough to make Apple TV+ overtake its competitors? New data from JustWatch seen by 9to5Mac shows details about the market share of streaming platforms in the US during Q1 2025.

Apple TV+ market share versus other streaming platforms

According to JustWatch’s latest research, Apple TV+’s market share in the US went from 7% in the fourth quarter of 2024 to 8% in the first quarter of 2025, which covers the months of January to March. Although Apple was right to say that more people subscribed to Apple TV+ during this period, the increase wasn’t exactly huge.

Overall, the figures for the first quarter remain pretty much the same when compared to the last quarter of 2024. Amazon Prime Video and Netflix are still fighting for first and second place, while Max and Disney+ are trailing behind with a significant difference.

Another highlight of the Q1 2025 report is that both Peacock and Starz reached 2% market share each. You can take a look at the full market share ranking provided by JustWatch below:

  • Amazon Prime Video: 21%
  • Netflix: 20%
  • Max: 13%
  • Disney+: 12%
  • Hulu: 10%
  • Apple TV+: 8%
  • Paramount +: 7%
  • Peacock: 2%
  • Starz: 2%
  • Others: 5%

Apple TV+ was launched in 2019 and has more than 300 titles available, which is less than its competitors have since Apple focuses exclusively on original content.

Although Apple TV+ movies and shows have won important awards, a recent report revealed that the platform still results in money losses for the company. It’s estimated that Apple loses $1 billion a year on Apple TV+. The report also claims that the platform has around 45 million subscribers worldwide.
