Apple Music for Windows now supports Dolby Atmos audio

Apple this week quietly released a huge update to the Apple Music app for Windows. With the latest version, PC users can now play Spatial Audio songs with Dolby Atmos.

Dolby Atmos on Apple Music for Windows

As noted by users on Reddit, the company has published a new support article on its website detailing how to play Dolby Atmos audio in the Apple Music app for Windows. For those unfamiliar, Dolby Atmos enables “immersive, three-dimensional” audio on compatible headphones and speakers.

If you’re an Apple Music subscriber on Windows, make sure you have the latest version of the app installed. It’s available for free from the Microsoft Store. You’ll also need to install the Dolby Access app on your PC, as Windows doesn’t come with the Dolby Atmos codec included.

It’s worth noting that the Dolby Access app is only free for external speakers, while the codec for headphones costs $14.99.

If you already have the latest version of the Apple Music app and the Dolby Access app installed on your PC, all you need to do is enable Dolby Atmos playback in the Apple Music settings.

The Apple Music app was launched for Windows in 2023 as a replacement for iTunes (which is still available for Windows PCs, although it no longer gets updates with new features). Apple has also launched the Apple TV app for Windows, as well as another app called Apple Devices – which lets users backup and restore iOS devices from a PC.
