Social media users opposed to President Trump sarcastically welcomed Elon Musk into the fold Thursday as he unleashed a torrent of X posts critical of the commander in chief.

@elonmusk !!!! Don’t you?” conservative anti-Trump lawyer George Conway — whose ex-wife Kellyanne was senior counsel to the president during his first term — wrote on X, as Musk lambasted Trump’s support for the “One Big Beautiful Bill” working its way through Congress.
To which the Republicans Against Trump X account responded: “Not yet. Give it a few more anti-Trump tweets first.”
When the world’s richest man took credit for Trump’s 2024 election victory, as well as wins by House and Senate Republicans, the account replied: “Welcome to the resistance.”
“I guess we are that desperate,” one anti-Trump user wrote on X.
Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson tweeted out sarcastic support for Musk when he fumed about Trump’s “ingratitude.”
“So TRUE!” the anti-Trump GOP operative wrote.
“Now @elonmusk has a big decision to make,” the Dispatch host Jamie Weinstein quipped on X. “Will he host a Resistance podcast with [Anthony Scaramucci] or will he host a new podcast with [Michael Cohen]. These are truly the times that try men’s souls.”
Scaramucci and Cohen are both former Trump allies who have since become foes of the commander in chief.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Thursday that he is “disappointed” in Musk’s decision to bash massive pieces of the legislation, which is key to implementing the president’s second-term agenda.
“Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” the president wrote on Truth Social, attempting to explain Musk’s heel turn.
In a flurry of social media posts Thursday, the Tesla, SpaceX and X boss has expressed support for impeaching Trump, floated the idea of backing a new political party and has accused the administration of withholding documents related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein because the president would be mentioned.
