Anne Hathaway is solidifying her status as a red carpet pro at the 2025 Met Gala.
The actress, 41, appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2025 Costume Institute Gala in a glamorous and chic Carolina Herrera ensemble that put an elegant spin on the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Hathaway told Vogue she worked with the house’s creative director Wes Gordon on a look that had to feature a crisp white shirt, which not only fit the dress code but also nodded to Carolina Herrera herself, whom Hathaway called the “queen of the white shirt.”
The top was paired with a studded striped column skirt and a necklace adorned with a massive gemstone. Her glam consisted of a high voluminous ponytail accessorized with a headband and makeup topped with a bright pink lip.
Like some of the stars in attendance, including co-chair Colman Domingo, Hathaway’s look paid homage to late fashion journalist André Leon Talley, who inspired this year’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme and exhibit. Talley died in 2022 from a heart attack at the age of 73.
“What we wanted — we love everybody here. We respect everybody here. We dressed for one person and we wanted André Leon Talley to look down from heaven and scream ‘Glamour!’ ” she explained.

In October 2024, Vogue shared details on the 2025 Met Gala, announcing that Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for the event, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair.
The gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on the first Monday in May, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. This year’s event also has a star-studded host committee that includes Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Usher and Angel Reese.

Hathaway made her Met Gala debut in 2010 in a glittering champagne gown and has since become a highly anticipated guest at the annual event, bringing her signature elegant style to the iconic Met stairs.
In 2015, the Princess Diaries alum shut down the carpet in a gold hooded column dress. Her most avant-garde look came in 2018, when she wore a voluminous crimson taffeta ball gown from Valentino Haute Couture for the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme. She complemented the look with a spiky bun adorned with metallic rods poking out of it.
After a five-year Hiatus, the Oscar-winner returned to the Met Gala in 2023 in a white tweed ensemble by Versace. The gown featured a full-body slit held together with pearl-embellished gold safety pins and camellia-like cups, inspired by Chanel’s signature flower. She also sported a matching jacket, which she wore draped over her shoulder.

Ultimately, she described her ensemble as a “marriage between Versace and Chanel” (Hathaway became the face of Versace’s Icons Campaign in 2023, and the theme of the event honored the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who served as the creative director of Chanel).
