Angelina Jolie‘s estranged father,Jon Voight, recently turned heads with his bold political message about the future of Hollywood.
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump, 78, posted on Truth Social about ordering a 100% tax on foreign films, claiming the “Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death.”

Voight, 86—named by the POTUS as a “special ambassador” to “troubled” Hollywood alongside Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone—has since responded to Trump’s declaration. And the Midnight Cowboy actor didn’t mince words with his response.
“It’s come to a point where we really do need help, and thank God the president cares about Hollywood and movies,” Voight told Variety in an article published on May 8.

Jolie’s father then boldly stated, “He has a great love for Hollywood in that way. We’ve got to roll up our sleeves here. We can’t let it go down the drain like Detroit.”
Additionally, Voight shared his opinion that Trump has “been treated unfairly.”
“I think I have too. But what’s the difference? Who cares?” he told the publication. “I mean, there’s been a battle, but now it’s time to put that aside. And I must say, in all of the interactions we’ve had [on addressing runaway production], politics has never come up. Never.”
In 2002, Jolie, 49, dropped “Voight” from her name following years of estrangement from her father that began when her parents split after Voight’s reported infidelity.
