Almost a decade after her starring role in NBC’s award-winning comedy Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler is eyeing another exciting project that will pair her with her former television showrunner.
The 53-year-old SNL alum will star in, executive produce and write the upcoming project: a zany comedy series for Peacock titled Dig, as reported by People magazine.
Per People, Dig‘s official logline involves “four women working at an archeological dig in Greece,” each of whom are at wildly different crossroads in their lives.
The logline goes on to further ramp up the stakes for the series, continuing on, “When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”
Dig will mark Poehler’s first time starring in a mainstream TV show since Parks and Recreation‘s finale in 2015. It also marks her second collaboration with showrunner Mike Schur, the co-creator of Parks and Rec alongside The Office‘s Greg Daniels.
Appearing in Parks and Rec from 2009 to 2015, Poehler famously played the lead role of endlessly optimistic government employee, Leslie Knope, a wide-eyed dreamer in rural Indiana who dreams of advancing her political career.
Along with his work on the NBC mockumentary series, Schur has gone on to create such successful sitcoms as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place and, most recently, A Man on the Inside for Netflix. Schur also remains recognizable for his recurring role in The Office as Dwight’s eccentric cousin Mose Schrute, in addition to serving as a writer and producer on the Primetime Emmy Award-winning series.
Additional casting announcements for Dig remain cause for speculation. However, given Schur’s penchant for reusing actors in different projects, it’s worth wondering whether a former cast member from Parks and Rec might pop up somewhere in the upcoming Peacock comedy.
