Despite their combined stardom, Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro have managed to keep their relationship out of the public eye.
The couple were first linked in February 2025 after fans spotted them in the audience of a London play. That same month, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that the A Complete Unknown actress and the We Live in Time actor were dating.
They’ve since been spotted doing everything from attending Hollywood parties to running errands together. However, neither of the actors has confirmed their romance — and Garfield might not be doing so any time soon.
The actor has spoken in multiple interviews about his “right” to maintain some level of privacy in his life off-screen. However, he has revealed what he finds “beautiful” about monogamous relationships.
“If you’re in a committed monogamous relationship, there’s something very beautiful about the sacrifice of other possibilities,” he told Bustle in 2021. “You make that connection sacred and it intensifies the joy of it and the specialness of it.”

Over a month after they posed together alongside Eddie Redmayne and Lynn Hirschberg at W Magazine’s annual Best Performances party in Los Angeles, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that the stars were together.
“They’ve been really lowkey and have been spending time together quietly,” the source said in February 2025.
That same month, a fan posted a video that showed the pair sitting next to each other during Jonathan Bailey’s performance of Richard II at a theater in London.

Though they haven’t publicly confirmed their relationship, Garfield and Barbaro have been spotted spending time together multiple times.
After the 2025 Oscars — where Barbaro received her first-ever nomination for her portrayal of Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown — they were seen walking into an afterparty in L.A. thrown by Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
A few weeks later, the couple were seen at a grocery store in Malibu, Calif. DeuxMoi shared photos on Instagram that featured Garfield and Barbaro wearing baseball caps while running errands.

Barbaro made her Met Gala debut in May 2025. Though Garfield, who hasn’t attended the fashion event since 2019, didn’t walk the red carpet with her, video footage captured by Cosmopolitan showed him waiting for Barbaro outside The Mark Hotel in New York City.
In the video, the casually dressed Hacksaw Ridge star gives Barbaro a hug before escorting her out of the hotel.
At the gala, the actress wore a recreation of a 1947 New Look design by Dior, per Harper’s Bazaar. When she met up with Garfield, she had changed into a black tulle Dior dress.

In a 2024 interview with Esquire, the Oscar-nominated Tick, Tick … Boom! actor revealed that he has no plans to talk publicly about who he is or isn’t dating. Garfield said, “I have never, and I won’t ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone, ever.”
He made similar statements to Bustle three years earlier about his love life, saying that he’ll “fight” for his “right for a private, personal life.”
“My right to be ordinary,” Garfield said. “My right to be a mess. My right to be sorrowful. My right to lose, to get it wrong, to be stupid, to be a person.”

Before his relationship with Barbaro, Garfield briefly dated spiritual reader Kate Tomas. They were first linked in March 2024, but by October, she had confirmed that the two had split “months ago.”
The actor also dated his Amazing Spider-Man costar Emma Stone in the 2010s before breaking up in 2015. The pair have, however, remained friends and continued to support each other’s careers. Garfield even called himself “her biggest fan” in a 2017 interview on Vanity Fair’s Little Gold Men podcast.
