Alison Sweeney Opens Up About ‘Horrible’ Challenge On ‘The Biggest Loser’ originally appeared on Parade.
Alison Sweeney replaced Caroline Rhea as host of The Biggest Loser for Season 4, and she remained the host until the show ended with Season 18 in 2016.
Now, nearly a decade later, The Biggest Loser is being put under a microscope with the Netflix documentary Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser. Sweeney took part in the documentary and spoke about the good and the bad of the controversial competition show that was both inspirational and controversial.
“As host of the show, it was my job to be there for the contestants and encourage them to talk about some of the harder things that are embarrassing and hard to talk about,” Sweeney said during a sit-down interview in the documentary.
There was one part of the NBC weight loss competition show that Sweeney didn’t like, and she talked about it during her time on Fit for TV.
“The temptation challenges were the hardest part of the show for me,” Sweeney admitted.
The temptation challenges on The Biggest Loser were events meant to challenge the contestants’ willpower, but they faced quite a bit of criticism. Perhaps that’s because the challenges would set the contestants against each other in a contest to see who could eat the most calories in a set time limit — something that was counter to the ultimate goal of weight loss.
The winner of a temptation challenge would be rewarded with prizes that included extra training sessions, a chance to change up the teams, or a weigh-in advantage.
