Alice Waters is sharing what she really thinks of Meghan Markle’s cooking.
The legendary chef, 81, discussed the topic while chatting exclusively with Parade amid the 10th anniversary season premiere of Netflix’s Chef’s Table: Legends at a private luncheon at Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc & French Laundry establishments in Napa Valley, Calif., on Thursday, May 1. While in Napa, she and her Chef’s Table co-stars also celebrated The Culinary Institute of America’s Reel Taste Film Awards at CIA at Copia in partnership with The Napa Valley Film Festival (NVFF).

“I did see her show, and I was very pleased with it,” Waters, who appeared on the finale of Markle’s Netflix cooking and lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, said. “I was very comfortable talking to her. She loves gardening. She loves flowers. She loves her children [and] cares deeply about food. And, I didn’t do any cooking. I just did [the] talking about what she wanted to cook and seeing her beautiful eggs and all of that.”
Noting that she has tasted “a lot of things that [Meghan] had made before,” Waters went on to tell Parade that although the Duchess of Sussex is a “good cook, a tasty cook,” she hasn’t tried to recreate any recipes from their time together. In fact, she told Parade she “rarely” cooks from a recipe these days.

“I’m just in simplicity. I’m always eating a salad every day. I’m eating a lot of Japanese [food] and eating out, and I’m trying to convince people that you don’t need recipes if you have ripe, delicious food,” she said. “All you need is a little olive oil and good vinegar and just throw it on the salad.”
Season 10 of Chef’s Table: Legends can now be streamed on Netflix.
