Alice in Chains have canceled their upcoming tour after their drummer suffered a medical emergency.

The “Man in the Box” and “No Excuses” artists announced that they will not move forward with their scheduled headlining shows and festival appearances because member Sean Kinney was deemed unfit to perform.

“After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals, we have made the decision to cancel our remaining upcoming festival performances and the Alice in Chains headline shows,” the band wrote in a statement on social media. “While we were all eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health is our top priority at this moment.”

The statement did not indicate Kinney’s specific diagnosis but noted that “the issue requires immediate attention” and that “his long-term prognosis is positive.”

The group’s statement concluded, “We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time.”

Representatives for Alice in Chains did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for further information.

The tour cancellation came the day after Alice in Chains pulled the plug on their show in Montville, Conn. “After our soundcheck this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Sean experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency,” the band announced on May 8. “We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

The pioneering grunge rockers’ Connecticut concert would have been their first full show in more than a year, as the group has not performed a full set since their appearance at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in April 2024. They had also scheduled headlining shows in Nashville for Tuesday, May 13, and in Dothan, Ala., for Thursday, May 15, and the group was slated to perform at several festivals, including MMR*B*Q in Camden, N.J., on Saturday; Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday; and Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Fla., this coming Friday, May 16.

The band’s website now displays just one upcoming live appearance, at Black Sabbath’s farewell extravaganza for Ozzy Osbourne in Birmingham on July 5. Numerous other legendary rock acts are scheduled to perform in the buildup to Sabbath’s set, including  Metallica, Slayer,  Slash, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Tom Morello, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon.
