Alexis Bledel Makes Rare Return to ‘Tuck Everlasting’ 23 Years After Disney Role originally appeared on Parade.
Alexis Bledel is headed back to Treetop, but this time, she’s not on screen. She’s behind the mic.
On Thursday, July 31, the 43-year-old Gilmore Girls icon appeared in a teaser clip released by Macmillan Audio, confirming she’s narrating a special 50th anniversary audiobook edition of Tuck Everlasting. The short video shows Bledel reading the first paragraph of the 1975 novel—more than two decades after she played Winnie Foster in the 2002 Disney film adaptation.
“It has been an amazing experience to revisit this world,” the award-winning actress said in a statement shared with People. “Tuck Everlasting holds a special place in my heart, having played Winnie Foster in the film many years ago.”

The novel, written by Natalie Babbitt, follows Winnie, a young girl in 1914 who stumbles upon the Tuck family—immortal beings who drank from an enchanted spring hidden in the woods. Bledel starred opposite Jonathan Jackson, who played Jesse Tuck, alongside a cast that included Ben Kingsley, Sissy Spacek, and William Hurt.

“Narrating this beloved story for its 50th anniversary edition is a wonderful journey back into a tale that challenges us to think about what it truly means to live a meaningful life,” the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star added. “It’s a timeless piece that continues to inspire, and I’m thrilled to bring this magical narrative to life for a new generation of listeners.”
This marks a rare return for Bledel, who hasn’t taken on a major public role since choosing to step away from The Handmaid’s Tale in 2022. She played Emily Malek in the Hulu series from 2017 to 2021, earning an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress. Though she made a brief cameo in the show’s May finale, this audiobook serves as her first full project in over three years.
The Tuck Everlasting audiobook is available for preorder now.
