Al Roker and Deborah Roberts had a meet-cute at the Met!
The couple dressed to the nines and attended the 2025 Met Gala on Monday, May 5, but not together. While Roker covered the event with the Today show, Roberts was hosting the ABC News special, making their brief run-in on the red carpet a sweet surprise.
“See, you look great!” Roberts, 64, exclaimed as she caught a glimpse of her husband in a video on Roker’s Instagram.
“So do you!” the 70-year-old responded.
“I didn’t know you were coming,” Roberts then joked. “And you have a top hat,” Roker teased as he showed off his own. “Wow, top of the morning to you.”

Roberts continued to walk, telling the weatherman, “See you later!”
“She actually acknowledged me,” he quipped as she shouted back, “Yeah, but barely!”

Roker poked fun at the encounter in the caption of his post, writing: “I got all dressed up to go to the @metmuseum @metcostumeinstitute gala and @debrobertsabc and I both wearing #tophats. Who knew.”
People in the comments couldn’t get enough of the couple, who have been married for nearly 30 years, with one person saying: “😂 I couldn’t adore you both any more! ❤️”
“These two are my favorite couple in all of New York City,” wrote another.
Someone else added: “It’s the ‘but barely’ for me 😂”

The theme of this year’s iconic gala honored the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Held on the first Monday of every May, the annual event is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute.
Vogue first shared the details on the 2025 Met Gala in October 2024, announcing that Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
A post on the museum’s Instagram further describes it as “a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism.”
