Al Roker, 70, and wife Deborah Roberts, 64, showed up in style to the star-studded 2025 Met Gala on May 5 wearing matching black top hats. A few days later on May 8 at the New York City Ballet Gala, the longtime couple exclusively shared with PEOPLE who wore the top hats better.
The two TV journalists — who will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in September — agreed on which of them looked better on the Met Gala red carpet, with the Today show co-host tipping his hat to his beloved wife.
“I did, of course … I had a great outfit,” said Roberts, an ABC News co-anchor for 20/20, to which her husband replied, “Yes, yes. Yes, she did.”

“We were competing,” Roker quipped, as Roberts replied, “We were working. We were working unfortunately, but we had a good time.”
At the Met Gala, as captured in a Today Instagram video that Roker also shared, the couple playfully ran into each other amid their press duties.
“Top of the morning to you,” Roker said to Roberts, who was walking past her husband. “Okay, see you later,” she said back to him.
“She actually acknowledged me,” he joked. “Yeah, but barely,” she replied.

In September 2024, they celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary.
“I have to say, I’m not learning, learning about him, but I’m just discovering,” Roberts said at the time on The View. “Like, ‘You’re more stubborn than I ever realized.’ You know, I’m just like, I’m shocked.”
Roker also marked their 29th wedding anniversary on Instagram.
“When you see what I looked like 29 years ago, it’s even more amazing @debrobertsabc married me,” he captioned the post. “Here’s to a woman who has questionable taste and even more questionable eyesight.”
