After Last Week’s Big Win, Gingrich Shares What Trump Does Next

After President Donald Trump’s major victory last week, Newt Gingrich appeared on Fox Business Monday to assess what the administration does next.

Trump signed the “Big, Beautiful Bill” into law Friday, solidifying his 2017 tax cuts and other key domestic policies, after the House passed the bill by a 218-214 vote. During an appearance on “Kudlow,” Gingrich outlined the next steps he said Trump must take to maintain momentum and secure long-term success.

“I think where we go next is continue to modernize the government, move towards a genuinely balanced budget, as we did in the late 90s, which will bring down interest rates, allow for more tax cuts and, most importantly, give the American people genuine control over their lives rather than having government trying to control them,” Gingrich told host Larry Kudlow.

Gingrich also discussed Trump’s recent speech in Iowa, where the president announced plans for the 250th-anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Gingrich said this event highlights the unique patriotism that binds Americans.

“We’re a country bound together by a patriotism that’s unique, that says every one of us, of every background, is endowed by God with certain rights. And my older daughter Kathy Lubbers was in Sheboygan for the 4th of July, sent me a picture of the local Hmong community that was part of the 4th of July parade, because that’s the heart of America,” Gingrich said. “You can come here from anywhere legally, you can contribute to America, and somehow you become American, no matter what’s your background. And I think the Democrats just don’t get it.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries opposed the bill with a four-hour speech, setting the record for the longest speech in House history. (RELATED: ‘The Coming Trump Boom’: Newt Gingrich Previews ‘Big Step’ He Says Will Reshape Economy)

The new law extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanently, while fulfilling campaign promises to eliminate taxes on tips and overtime pay. It also raises the child tax credit to $2,200 and includes substantial increases in border security and defense spending.

Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie and Republican Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick voted against the bill. Trump threatened to primary Massie for his opposition.
