Meyers wondered if Rocky’s Met Gala outfit was approved by Wintour
The late-night host’s question comes amid rumors of the Vogue editor approving all outfits before the Met Gala
A$AP Rocky is one of the Met Gala’s most fashionable guests — but partly because Anna Wintour gives him a seal of approval before he hits the carpet for the event.
Rocky, who was one of the co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala, was the May 8 guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers alongside Wintour and jokingly revealed that the rumors are (sometimes) true — the Vogue editor-in-chief signs off on outfits before they appear at the annual high-fashion event.
The “Fashion Killa” rapper’s journey to the 2025 Met Gala first started off with disbelief. “When Anna first reached out, you thought it was a prank,” Meyers inquired.
“Absolutely. I tend to get these prank calls and I said, ‘Nah, this can’t be real,'” he recalled. “But it was a dream come true.”
The late-night host then took the opportunity to have Rocky address the rumor that Wintour is required to see attendee outfits before they appear at the Metropolitan Museum of Art ahead of the gala.

“When you pick your outfit, do you feel a responsibility to run it by Anna first?” Meyers asked Rocky, who replied, “Well, she told me exactly what to wear.”

Meyers pressed on and asked the rapper, “When you heard what she wanted you to wear, did you agree that it was a good look? Were you happy with it?” Rocky’s response — “she told me to wear mine, so yeah.”
Wintour previously addressed the rumors that she weighs in on everyone’s Met Gala looks and said she actually doesn’t do that. On a recent Good Morning America episode, Michael Strahan asked her about the rumor, and she laughed it off saying that she’s happy to offer advice when asked but she doesn’t approve every single look. She did say, however, that some people show up and she has “no idea” what they’ll be wearing.
The 2025 Met Gala took place on Monday, May 5 — for the event, Rocky wore a custom design from his AWGE creative agency consisting of a black vest, white button down top, slacks and a classic black tie. The look was completed with a Marmot-inspired parka, oxford shoes AWGE made in collaboration with Christian Louboutin and Bulgari jewels.

The theme for the evening, as well as the museum’s corresponding spring 2025 exhibit was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The dress code for this year was “Tailored for You,” which spotlights the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting.
A post on the museum’s Instagram revealed that the exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Rocky discussed how he felt after learning about the theme and its connections to Black culture. “I was just happy that the theme was menswear and just celebrating Black dandyism and Black excellence, so I was in awe,” he told the host. “And when I saw the other guys, I was like, ‘I’m glad my outfit is the best. I’m glad I wore it.'”

Wintour, meanwhile, revealed that the theme, in part, was inspired by the late André Leon Talley.

The former Vogue creative director and fashion icon, who died in 2022 from a heart attack at 73, “would have loved” the 2025 Met Gala, Wintour told Meyers.
“He would have been at the top of the stairs shrieking and yelling and fainting when he saw Diana Ross appear on the carpet,” she said. “I know he was watching us from above. It was a night for André.”
