Jason Sudeikis has officially confirmed that “Ted Lasso” will return for a fourth season, and the show’s beloved coach might be making a surprising career move.

Jason Sudeikis Discusses The New Season Of ‘Ted Lasso’

Sudeikis recently appeared on the “New Heights” podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce.

During the podcast, the hosts asked him if a new “Ted Lasso” season was in the works, and he said, per PEOPLE Magazine, “We’re writing season 4 now,” adding, “That’s the official word, yeah. Ted’s coaching a women’s team.”

Although Sudeikis didn’t elaborate on how the shift would unfold, his revelation aligned with the show’s season 3 finale, which teased the information of an AFC Richmond women’s team.

However, the actor’s revelation also sparked speculation among fans about whether Ted will return to England or if the new season will take him in an entirely different direction.

While Sudeikis remained tight-lipped about further details, his comments have fueled excitement over what’s next for the heartwarming Apple TV+ series.

The season 3 finale saw Ted Lasso leaving AFC Richmond to be with his son, Henry, leaving his coaching future seemingly uncertain.

Hence, fans were left wondering if the beloved coach had said his final goodbye to English football.

When Travis asked whether Ted would remain in the United States, Sudeikis playfully dodged the question.

“That’s too many questions,” he joked. When pressed further, he added, “And it’s only because I don’t have—I don’t know.”

While Sudeikis’s ambiguous response leaves plenty of room for speculation, his confirmation that Ted will be coaching a women’s team suggests the show might be heading in a fresh new direction.

Although Ted’s future appears uncertain, AFC Richmond may not be completely out of the picture.

The season 3 finale featured Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) pitching an idea to club owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) about launching a women’s team.

One of the questions that quickly comes to mind is whether Ted’s new coaching gig could be tied to this initiative. If so, it would mean a reunion with some of the show’s fan-favorite characters while introducing new players into the mix.

Sudeikis admitted that continuing the story beyond its original three-season arc has been both “exciting” and “daunting.”

However, he emphasized that the decision to move forward was influenced by overwhelming fan support.

“The universe kept just saying things,” he said, reflecting on his conversations with fans. He added, “Whether [it was] kind folks at airports, or on the internet, or friends of my folks or just other people in the industry… and I was just like, ‘OK, I hear you.”’

Jason Sudeikis Dishes On How ‘Ted Lasso’ Started

During the podcast, Sudeikis also shared the origins of “Ted Lasso,” revealing that the character first appeared in NBC Sports promos years before becoming a full-fledged TV phenomenon.

NBC initially envisioned a loud, intense coach similar to Sudeikis’s role on “Saturday Night Live.”

However, he opted for a gentler, more optimistic approach, shaping Ted into the lovable figure fans know today.

“The voice just kind of developed from joking around with friends,” Sudeikis explained, noting that it carried hints of legendary coaches like Bill Self and Roy Williams—though not directly based on them.

This shift in tone ultimately helped transform Ted Lasso into a heartwarming and inspirational hit, resonating with audiences worldwide.

With “Ted Lasso” officially returning, the possibilities for Season 4 are endless.

Will Ted stay in the U.S. or head back to London? Will AFC Richmond’s women’s team be at the heart of the story?

While details remain scarce, one thing is certain: Ted’s journey isn’t over just yet. As Sudeikis said, “There’s more there, and it is a neat group of people to work with.”

He added, “It’s a wonderful group of people, and characters to write around,” which could also mean endless possible stories and scenarios.

Fans will have to wait for Apple TV+ to drop more details, but if history has taught one anything, “Ted Lasso” will continue to bring heart, humor, and unexpected surprises.
